Inflammation of the meninges due to systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE). The syndrome is clinically characterised by headache, neck stiffness, fever and photophobia. The presentation may be acute, subacute, chronic or recurrent. Other neurological and non-neurological/systemic features of SLE may be present. Diagnosis may be aided by serological testing for antibodies associated with SLE, neuroimaging and spinal fluid analysis which may reveal a lymphocytic pleocytosis, raised protein and the presence of oligoclonal bands. |
