Paraneoplastic sensorimotor neuropathy occurs as a remote effect in cancer and lymphoma patients in an undetermined frequency. It is an uncharacteristic sensorimotor neuropathy with mixed motor and sensory component also with a large variance of clinical expression. The neuropathy can occur at the first presentation of the cancer, or appear in the later course, where it has to be distinguished from treatment toxicity, sequelae of weight loss and hypovitaminosis. The association with onconeuronal antibodies as biomarkers is poor and most commonly related to autoantibodies anti-Hu and anti-CV2/CRMP-5 (collapsin response mediator protein 5) antibodies. |
