Dermatomyositis (DM) associated with an underlying solid malignancy has been reported in up to 40% of patients in reported case series. Malignancy is much commoner in patients with DM presenting after the age of 40. The range of associated cancers is wide and largely reflects the prevalence of different cancers in the populations studied. Cancer-associated DM has been strongly associated with anti-TIF1-gamma autoantibodies which are directed against transcription intermediary factor 1-gamma. |
