A macroreentrant and typically cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI) dependent atrial tachycardia occurring in neonates without structural heart disease and usually occurring within the first few days of life. Recurrences and the need for chronic treatment are rare. Idiopathic neonatal atrial flutter is a rare arrhythmia in the neonate and is almost always recognized before or at birth. It corresponds to a rapid regular atrial tachycardia which is unaffected by variations in atrioventricular (AV) conduction. Most commonly there is 2:1 conduction but 1:1, 4:1, and variable conduction are also encountered. |
