Eccrine syringosquamous metaplasia describes a distinctive microscopic finding of eccrine duct damage in which an insult, most commonly cytotoxic chemotherapy, has resulted in a transformation from the normal cuboidal to squamous epithelium, which may simulate squamous cell carcinoma. Patients present with erythematous papules, often in a generalized distribution and sometimes with vesicles and pustules. It may alsopresent with acral erythema. Drugs implicated include cytarabine, doxorubicin, cis-platinum and protein kinase inhibitors. |
