A distinct pattern of eczema involving the palmar surface of the tips of some or all of the digits of the hand. The skin is dry, cracked and may break down into painful fissures. The thumb, forefinger and middle finger of the dominant hand are the most commonly affected sites. Repetitive friction and exposure to degreasing agents are important aetiological factors but contact allergy is responsible in some cases. |
